“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.”  Deuteronomy 6:4–5

There’s a kind of simplicity here that cuts through everything else in life.

No long list.

No complicated system.

Just this: God is one, and He wants ALL of you.

Hear First

The passage begins with a command: “Hear.”

Not just listening with your ears, but taking it in and letting it shape you.

In a world full of noise, distractions, and divided loyalties, this is a call to focus, to pause, to remember who God is.

He is not one option among many. He is the center.

Love Completely

This isn’t partial love. It’s not a Sunday-only kind of devotion.

Heart means your emotions, desires, and what you care about most.

Soul means your identity, your inner life, your very being.

Strength means your actions, energy, time, and effort.

God isn’t asking for leftovers. He’s asking for everything, not because He needs it, but because you were made for that kind of relationship.

A Unified Life

When God is truly one in your life, everything else begins to line up.

Your choices.

Your priorities.

Your relationships.

It doesn’t mean life becomes easy, but it becomes clearer.

Instead of being pulled in ten directions, your life starts moving with purpose.

Reflection

Ask yourself honestly:

What competes for my attention and devotion right now?

Is my love for God divided or whole?

What would it look like to give Him all of my heart today?

Prayer

Lord,

Help me to truly hear You.

Strip away the noise and distractions that pull me in different directions.

Teach me to love You not halfway, not occasionally, but with all my heart, all my soul, and all my strength.

Let my life reflect that You alone are God.

Amen.
